The food industry is one of the most important productive specializations of Catalonia, it offers an important know-how in production and technology and is a leader in food ingredient suppliers and packaging companies and process technologies.

Some interest activities to develop competitiveness are:

• integrated databases of certified products
• automatic identification of products, animals, plants, and its characteristics
• products promotion platforms and marketing (B2C/B2B) and subjects (B2B)
• integrated farming management systems, etc.. (ERP)
• boost to electronic commerce (web pages, CRMs, etc)
• digital literacy programs for farms and implementation of  management systems
• automation of productive processes.

This intersectoral group has generated three ongoing projects: route planning, optimization of the value chain of food – ERP and Platform of e-commerce and analysis.

• Session 1: Interrelation supply & demand

  During this meeting, professionals of the food sector and companies of the ICT sector analyzed the technological situation of the food sector and the future challenges. 
  
  The meeting took place in Mercabarna. The ICT companies knew the main business activities and strategies. During the joint session, possible technological challenges were raised that could give added value to the sector.

  During the last meeting, with members from both sectors, the proposals were discussed.
  
  Finally, three initiatives were raised in facing the challenges: a platform for comprehensive management of the value chain, an ICT solution to optimize route planning and, finally, an online trading platform.
